James Polk was born July, 1803 in Darlington Co, South Carolina, and died there on Nov 17, 1877. He was the son of Thomas Polk, Sr, & wife, Lucy (MNU) according to deed records, of 1806.. He married Nov 24, 1831 to Frances Symiriam " Miram" Carter, daughter of William Carter & Margaret Miriam Byrd, of Darlington Co, SC.
Frances Symiriam Carter Polk was born Sept 14, 1815 SC and died April 29, 1873. Darlington, SC. The bible records have the death dates for James and his wife reversed.
James Polk was a farmer by occupation. When he died, his son E. F. Polk was the Administrator of the estate, dated Dec 22, 1877.
