Francois Alexis (Alexander) Rambin, Child #2 of Jean Baptiste Azenor Rambin & Wife, Marie Angelica Carmelite "Carmella" Palvados Rambin, was born in Natchitoches Par, La. Jan 24, 1824, Baptized in the Catholic Church @ Natchitoches, La. on March 12, 1826. Entry #53, Register #6
He came to Nacogdoches County in 1846, settling in what is known as " Rambin Town" near Cedar Bluff Community. His brother Bertrand Rambin came with him, and his sisters Adelaide "Delilah" Rambin Wallace Briley, and Celina Rambin Watkins soon followed, settling in nearby communities.

J. S. & Zenor are sons of Alexis (Alexander)
Alexander married Elizabeth Stephens, Dtr of John &
Elizabeth Stephens. His brother, Bertrand Rambin married her sister Barbara
Stephens, and moved out West. Alexander was a farmer by occupation.
Several sons built homes nearby when they arrived to maturity and married; only
one son, Hillarie "Eli" leaving the County. Today,
descendants of Alexander still own the same property, and two of his son's homes
are still standing.* Two of the older homes were torn down in the last few
years.
* The Henry Rambin home burned to the ground, Dec. 29, 2001.
The Rambin family were all very self-sufficient, growing most everything they ate; and had all kinds of livestock, including geese, ducks, guineas, lambs, and goats. It was a common occurrence on the fourth of July to barbecue several goats, and invite the neighbors.
They had a syrup mill, which they used to make syrup from the sugar cane they grew, and also for the neighbors. Parts of this old syrup mill are still standing at the Guy Rambin homeplace, and parts of another are still on the Zeno Rambin homeplace, now owned by Jack & Jacqueline Rambin Sparks.
My husband grew up in the old home of his son, James Rambin. My sister married a great grandson of Alexander Rambin, and she lives on the homeplace of his grandson, Guy Rambin.

Alexander Rambin died September 26, 1873 and is buried in the Old Moss Cemetery. Elizabeth Stephens, his wife, was born Jan. 1, 1830, and died June 26, 1911 and she is also buried @ Old Moss Cemetery. His grand son Guy Rambin was the overseer of this cemetery for many years, but since his death, it has grown up considerably, and is no longer accessible by vehicle.
