WILLIAM CARROLL WITT was born February 03, 1820 in Jefferson Co., Tennessee, and died July 14, 1892 in Moody, McLennan Co., Texas. He married JOICY HOLLINGSWORTH September 19, 1843 in Jacksonville, Calhoun Co., Alabama, daughter of HENRY HOLLINGSWORTH and RACHEL JONES. She was born December 01, 1822 in Tennessee, and died October 23, 1913 in Moody, McLennan Co., Texas. Both William Carroll and Joicy are buried in the Old Perry Cemetery, near Moody, as were William’s parents and several other Witt relatives-Notes for WILLIAM CARROLL WITT:

William, his father, Silas—then over 80 years old—and several other family members left Alabama for Texas about 1872 to live in the area around Waco, McLennan Co. William Carroll was a Baptist Minister as was his father and several of his sons. When Joicy Hollingsworth Witt's mother died in the fall of 1873 (in Calhoun Co., AL) William's family was in Bell County, Texas--Howard Post office. Bell county is just south of McLennan Co. They were still there in 1874. In 1877 their mailing address was the Moffett Post office--still Bell Co.

Children of WILLIAM WITT and JOICY HOLLINGSWORTH are:

                  c. JOHN RANDOLPH WITT, b. September 28, 1848, Cherokee Co., Alabama; Died January 21, 1928, Trinity Co., Texas.

John Randolph Witt never became a preacher like several of his brothers but it was said of him that he knew his Bible very well. About 1895 John Randolph was appointed to be Postmaster of one of Trinity County's Post Offices. At the time he lived in Bell County, over 150 miles away, as the crow flies. By the time he and his family got to Trinity County someone else had taken the job and John was evidently not the kind of person who would raise a stink over such matters. Nevertheless, he remained in Trinity County, farming and raising his large family (seven surviving of nine born children
