(Richard is the son of Hinchy Warren SR & Rachael Anderson)

Richard Warren was born December 13, 1763 in Northampton Co., North Carolina

He died in Butler Co, Alabama July 3, 1835 (Obit-Greenville Whig, , 7/11/1835, Vol 1, No 38-Mr. RICHARD WARREN died on the 3rd Inst, in the 72nd Year of his age".
PROB. buried Mt Moriah Bapt. Church Cem.
Butler Co., Ala (Unmarked grave)
He Married Sarah (MNU) about 1786 (Prob. in Burke Co., Georgia)
Born August 17, 1768
She died: Prior to 1830 Census Butler Co, Ala.

Richard Warren served in the Revolutionary War from Wilmington District, NC-(pay voucher) Wilmington District included Onslow Co.

The Warren family removed to Burke Co., Ga. about 1785, where Richard resided for several years; removed to Miss. Territory about 1803, and then to Conecuh Co, Ala about 1816* where he built Fort Warren, Pine Orchard Community, near Burnt Corn**   for the protection of the settlers, and travelers on the Old Federal Road. Many settlers from Conecuh & Monroe Counties took refuge in this fort during the many Indian uprisings
*Territory of Alabama was created from Eastern half of Mississippi Territory on March 3, 1817, with St. Stephens as the Capitol; In Nov, 1818 Cahaba was made the Capitol; and in 1819 became a state with temp. Capitol at Huntsville

**-Burnt Corn & Pine Orchard Communities are divided by the county line (Old Federal Road) between Conecuh & Monroe Counties. One side of the road is in Monroe Co, and the other side is in Conecuh Co.

"In 1817 the first court house of the county was built on Hampdon Ridge. By mutual agreement between the whites and the Indians, whose camps and villages lay beyond Murder creek, this stream was fixed as a boundary. But, due to increased Indian attacks on the white settlers, the settlers organized and drove the Indians out. Richard Warren was the first white settler to venture across Murder Creek to build his home.  He was soon after followed by his son, (Hinchey) who located at the point where he died, one mile east of Sparta.
In 1820 the Warrens, along with the Hunters & Boykins, were responsible for the court house being removed from Hampdon Ridge across the creek, where a new courthouse was built, and the village was given the name of Sparta. After the removal of the court house, the bar of Conecuh was increased by the location of Samuel W. Oliver, Edridge S. Greening, and John S. Hunter, at Sparta."

History of Conecuh County, Ray B. F. Riley, (1881)--"Richard Warren  became the first Representative of the County, in the Territorial Legislature, which then met at St. Stephens, in Washington County.
Second Territorial Session, Nov 1818 (Read House Journal)
Mr. Warren and his sons were the first white inhabitants who lived in the neighborhood of Sparta."

        (M) Robert Yeldell Born Nov, 1800 Died July 7, 1865 Mt Moriah Bapt Church Cem, Butler Co, Ala

"Died--after a protracted illness, near Monterey, in Butler County, Ala., on Tuesday the 22nd of May, 1860, MRS. FRANCES E. YELDELL, wife of Robert Yeldell, and only daughter of James and Mary Powers, in the 30th year of her age. She left three small children--all sons--the oldest of which is about 10 years of age, the next six, and an infant about six weeks old, a grief-stricken and disconsolate husband, with numerous relations and friends, to mourn their irreparable loss.

Though she made no profession of Christianity prior to her illness, she died like a Christian. In her last moments she gave unmistakable evidence of a hope beyond the grave, and admonished her friends to meet her in heaven. Though many tears have been shed for her, "we sorrow not as those who have no hope," being assured that "all things work together for good to them that love God." Lamented and beloved we bid her sadly farewell."
"Dear Fanny, thou hast left us
In grief to weep and mourn,
But not as the disconsolate
Who put no trust in God.
Thy body we have laid beneath
The cold and silent sod,
But thou art not there, dear Fanny,
Thy spirit rests with God.
When her life was well nigh closing
These cheering words she said,
I see Death and God approaching
And with them I shall speed.

"Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord; yea saith the spirit that they may rest from their labors, and their works do follow them."---D. A. [from the June 2, 1860 The South Alabamian] -Ref: Cheryl Morris, Butler Co, Ala Message Board

I found evidence which proves it. I have been working on these 2 children & their descendants for 2 days, and will get it all to you soon.

Catherine LITES of the 1870 census was a sister to Agnes McKeller/McKellar of Abbeville, SC.

How Richard R Warren met Agnes remains a puzzle, as the family resided in Abbeville, SC, 1840, 1850 & later. However, there were a few McKeller/McKellar families living in Ala. (Butler, Monroe & Perry Counties) during that time period. Agnes may have been visiting one of them shen she & Richard Warren met.

The 1880 Abbeville Census of the LITES family, shows the 2 WARREN children in the HH, which shows their father was b. ALA and their mother b. SC, The relationship is shown as NEPHEW on both the Warren children.

Therefore, Catherine has to be Agnes' sister! I found her in 1850, 1860 Abbeville, SC census in HH of her father John McKeller, beforre she (M) Joel Lites. The age matches the 1870 census of the LITES HH.

Also, in Abbeville, SC Marriages bet. 1770-1890, there is a listing for Agnes McKeller (M) JOHN Warren -NO date (This is prob. referenced from a court record wherein John Malichi Warren claimed part of estate of John McKeller/McKellar, father of Agnes & Catherine McKeller) as a dec. of Agnes McKeller Warren, and John's relationship has been misunderstood.

Also, John Malichi Warren (of 1860 Polk Co Tex census)appears as John M Warren in the census records with one exception, when he appears as Malichi Warren. Therefore, I KNOW he is one and the same as the John Malichi Warren of the 1860 Polk Co Texas Census. He always shows he was b. 1858, Texas, with father b. ALA & mother b. SC.
The same for Robert J. Warren b. 1861 SC, father b. ALA, mother b. SC.

It appears that after the death of Agnes, someone else was appointed Guardian of the Minor children (This can prob. be found in the Courthouse at Livingston) Perhaps the Aunt Elizabeth Warren Robinson took 2 children, your George W & his bro. Richard Laban; and the McKeller family of Abbeville, SC took the other 2 boys John Malichi & Robert J. Theses 2 latter sons remained with the Lites family until Joel & Catherine died, then named children for them.

(There is a wonderful story somewhere in here about them coming to Texas to pick up the two children or someone from Polk county going to Abbeville, SC to place the children-The most likely would be some of the McKeller family appearing in Court in Livingston, asking for guardiaship of the 2 children) It's a pity the elder Warrens & family members didn't write this down somewhere, as the ones who KNEW the complete story are now all gone!

We'll just have to do the best we can to reconstruct this admirable story.

How far do you live from Livingston? We must check on the guardianship papers! I could go down next week to check on them if you live too far away, as I live in Nacogdoches.

Will get back with you later.

Rgds,

Sadie

Class C, Rec't. No. 233, Register's No. 314, By Whom Claimed: RICHARD WARREN Quantity Claimed: 600 Arpents, Original Proprietor or claimant: RICHARD WARREN Nature & Date of title or claim: Settlement

NO. 233-RICHARD WARREN:
With the notice of this claim is filed a plat of survey by Stephen Justice, dated 13th March, 1803, and certified to have been made  by the order of Joseph Vidal, &c.  The testimony of John Welch and Samuel Tanner, taken by Benjamin Howard and Robert Scofield, Justices of the Peace in the Mississippi Territory, under a commission from the board, is to the following purpose:  John Welch hath deposed that RICHARD WARREN, a man over twenty-one years of age, and the head of a family, was, to his knowledge, inhabiting and cultivating a tract of land on the waters of Tensaw, by the permission of Joseph Vidal, in March, 1803, and that he continued to inhabit and cultivate the same for three years thereafter.  Samuel Tanner states, that RICHARD WARREN was, to his knowledge, actually inhabiting and cultivating a tract of land on the waters of Tensaw, on the 20th of December, 1803, and before and after that time, he had about four acres under cultivation.  The plat of above survey above mentioned enclosed only 500 arpents, equal to about four hundred and twenty-three acres.  No other evidence is addressed.
